Job Summary NorthStar Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Emergency Department team. The Registered Nurse will provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment, working closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple clinical priorities while maintaining high standards of safety and care. Key Responsibilities Assess patients and identify immediate healthcare needs. Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed. Monitor patient conditions and document clinical changes. Assist physicians and other healthcare professionals during procedures. Respond appropriately to emergency situations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care. Qualifications Required: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or eligibility for Texas licensure. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Strong communication and clinical decision-making skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). 1+ year of Emergency Department or acute-care experience. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Experience working with electronic health record systems. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Appropriately dispenses pharmaceuticals, including non-sterile compounds, chemotherapy, biologics, controlled substances, and specialty medications for adult and pediatric patients. 2. Performs quality checks on prescription orders entered by pharmacy technicians; assists technicians with data entry of prescriptions for complex orders. 3. Provides direction to pharmacy technicians to promote operational efficiency (i.e., tech station assignment) and quality of the workflow. 4. Consults with patients regarding medication questions/concerns and instructions as needed. 5. Reviews and evaluates all physicians’ medication orders for completeness and appropriateness prior to dispensing; consults with physicians and nurses to clarify orders as needed. 6. Reviews prescribed drug therapy for contraindications, including but not limited to drug-drug interaction; drug-nutrient interaction; drug-herb interaction; allergies; and the appropriateness of drug and dose. 7. Documents and reports clinical interventions in the safety system; detects and reports adverse drug reactions accurately, in a timely manner and per policy. 8. Other duties and projects as assigned.
